STATEMENT
Tulou City, LEGO has always been a distilled world for our architecture and urban fantasies: it can be the mysterious and tranquil ancient walled city; it can also be the staggering and exhilarating modern metropolis. LEGO blurred the lines between art and architecture, game and profession, dream and reality.
"Tulou" (means dirt building) is a traditional prototype for collective dwelling located throughout Fujian and Guangdong province in southeast China. Usually taking the pure square or circular form, "Tulou" suggests a well defined, hierarchical living microcosm.
A strong circular form constructed with several concentric pixilated layers of LEGO formulates a luminous void, which is superimposed upon a base of hyper urban blocks. Here when "Tulou" confronts with the chaotic urban landscapes of today's Asian cities, can it stir up both spatial and social interaction in contemporary city?
